Weingut Engel · Rheinhessen, Germany
Viognier grown on quartz soils. Acacia and hibiscus on the nose, melon and honey on the palate — spiced and creamy.
Viognier is a rare grape in Germany — it's most at home in the Rhône Valley — but Engel grows it on quartz-rich parcels in Rheinhessen. "Reserve" is Engel's own label for the wines that see the longest barrel-ageing.
Hand-picked grapes, twelve hours of skin contact, fermented in barrique and tonneau (60/40 new and old oak). Bottled unfiltered under screw cap.
Clear, pale yellow. The nose opens with acacia and hibiscus flower. The palate runs to melon and honey, spiced and creamy.
