Weingut Engel · Rheinhessen, Germany
Chardonnay from limestone soils in the Dalsheimer Sauloch parcel. Saline minerality, yellow fruit and a herbal edge, with body and clear acidity.
Chardonnay from Engel's parcel in Sauloch, in Dalsheim, where the soils are limestone with clay. Hand-picked grapes, spontaneous fermentation on native yeasts, ten months on the lees.
Pale yellow in the glass. The nose opens slightly reductive before releasing light fruit and a herbal edge. The palate carries saline minerality, body, and the clear acidity that keeps it fresh. Serve chilled, not ice-cold, with fish or poultry.
Albrecht Engel runs the family estate in Flörsheim-Dalsheim in southern Rheinhessen. Spontaneous fermentation, long skin contact, often unfiltered.
